Country Week - tree and sea change

Country Week is a regional development program that aims to showcase the virtues of living and working in country and regional New South Wales. It is designed to attract professional and skilled trade's people, as well as businesses, to ascertain the opportunities that await them by relocating to a community outside Sydney, like Oberon which is only two hours drive from Parramatta.

The Country Week Expo to be held on the 8-10 August 2008 at Rosehill Gardens Event Centre on James Ruse Drive is designed to build awareness within metropolitan Sydney of such wonderful opportunities awaiting them in country and regional New South Wales. These opportunities will of course continue beyond the Expo.

Country Week is a cooperative venture whose principal partners include the three tiers of Government, major businesses and community organisations, all of whom represent New South Wales' country and regional areas, with a vision of growth and rejuvenation.

Oberon, West of Sydney in the Central Tablelands, is the perfect hub from which to explore many country towns and historic villages in the Central West. We are less than three hours from Sydney (around two from Parramatta), half an hour from Bathurst, about 45 minutes from Lithgow, one hour from Katoomba, one and a half hours from Mudgee, two hours from Goulburn and three hours from Canberra. Oberon is situated in the centre of The Tablelands Way, a wonderful driving route that links Canberra with the Hunter without traveling via Sydney.

This means you can relocate to Oberon and still be in the centre of things.
Moving to Oberon means you can enjoy all the country lifestyle has to offer - clean air, little traffic, a crisp alpine climate, a short drive or walk to work (which means less time spent commuting), friendly people, a real sense of community, a safer environment, and some of the most spectacular scenery in NSW, including Jenolan Caves and Kanangra Walls, as part of the Blue Mountains World Heritage area right in your backyard.

  • We are still close to family, friends and business contacts in the city;
  • Our real estate is affordable yet in demand so there is less risk of capital loss for those who may be thinking of building or buying a home;
  • We have one of the lowest unemployment rates in Australia and our industries and businesses are actively looking for skilled workers;

Our Council is responsive to community and business needs. Councillors are not party political, which means they work as a team for the betterment of Oberon. For information on the Oberon Council please click here.

  • Our people have real country values and are fiercely proud of their area, having successfully fought against amalgamation of their Council, and now stand on their own; and
  • Oberon is the lead council in developing The Tablelands Way, as an iconic driving route from the South Coast/Canberra through Goulburn and Oberon to the Hunter, without driving through Sydney.
