Community Groups, Senior Activity and Environment
The Oberon community is full of wonderful people dedicated to making the area an even better place to live. There are many community groups working to help others, whether it is raising funds for a good cause or providing yet another pastime for locals.
In Oberon there are a number of community groups dedicated to helping others, such as the local branch of Can Assist, Red Cross, Rotary, Apex, St Vincent de Paul, State Emergency Service and volunteer rural fire service.
Oberon also has other community groups in the town for locals to participate in, such as sewing groups, mums and bubs groups, Cuppa, Craft and Chat group, and of course the very enthusiastic gardening club. There are also arts groups, library groups, aerobic and exercise groups, as well as a Back to Basics women’s group, where women can come and learn skills such as knitting, sewing and crocheting.
Oberon also has a Men’s Shed which is becoming more popular to local blokes by the week, where they gather together to work on projects and socialize.
Oberon has a lot to offer its senior members of the community, with plenty of activities as well as support.
There are a number of groups for senior citizens to become involved in, including social groups such as the gardening club, spinners and weavers and needle workers, or sporting groups such as the bowling club. There are events and celebrations for seniors, such as the senior citizens concert. The Oberon Robey Centre is also a great place for senior citizens to come and interact, share a meal and of course have the odd game of bingo. They also go on day trips and outings. Oberon is also the home of wonderful Hathaway Cottages, with 12 low care aged care beds with fantastic staff.
The Oberon community is conscious of the environment and makes efforts to help conserve our environment. For instance, instead of relying solely on electricity for heating in the town, there is natural gas available as a more environmentally-friendly option. Also Oberon’s forestry industry is very sustainable.
