Off the back of National Volunteers Week, Sydney's Lions Clubs are wasting no time in planning for another successful year of making a difference.

Members of Australia's largest service club will come together at Bankstown Sports Club this weekend to welcome their new Sydney leaders and kickstart another year of positive change in the community.

In the past year alone Lions across Sydney have donated over 150,000 hours of community service. In addition to a range of local fundraisers and projects, this year Lions Clubs in Sydney have also raised over $500,000 to support farmers affected by drought.

Some Lions are on a mission to cure childhood cancer and diabetes, others are committed to assisting those impacted by drought and floods and many are simply working together to help people in need in their local community. One thing all Lions have in common is together they are making an incredible difference.

Incoming District Officer Jennifer Touzel says it's an exciting time for Lions and she looks forward to seeing the organisation and its impact continue to grow this year.

"Many refer to Lions as Australia's best kept secret. Every day Lions across Sydney go above and beyond every day to help people in need and make our community a better place to live. We are so proud of the incredible work this organisation has achieved over the years and look forward to continuing to creating more positive change and seeing more people get involved," says Jennifer Touzel.

"We have some exciting things planned for the year ahead and are focused on giving more Sydney siders the opportunity to help make a difference this year. Whether you want to cure cancer, help the deaf and blind, support communities after a natural disaster or simply meet some new people and give back to your local community - Lions can help you do that," adds Jennifer.

Since the first club was formed in Australia 70 years ago Lions has grown dramatically in size and impact with over 1300 Lions Clubs now in Australia giving back to an array of local charities and community-based programs.

"In Sydney we now have over 70 clubs ranging from local area clubs to Leo clubs for younger volunteers, Lioness clubs for women, Lions Champion clubs for Special Olympics athletes and clubs for different ethnic groups. There's a club for everyone and we look forward to welcoming more new members this year," adds Jennifer.

In addition to the thousands of community service and support projects each year, Lions support a range of other major research projects and support programs including medical research, environment work and emergency disaster relief. Some Lions foundations include Australian Lions Childhood Cancer Research Foundation, Australian Lions Children's Mobility Foundation, Lions Eye Health Program, Lions Hearing Dogs, Australian Lions Drug Awareness Foundation.

100 per cent of funds donated to Lions go towards funding Lions projects.
