Bushwalking and Walking
Get out into the fresh country air and experience Oberon on a bushwalk!
There are walks and bushwalks in the Oberon area to suit everyone, and a great way to see the countryside and a great outing for the family.
There are easy walks, even those suitable for children, day walks, overnight walks and adventure trails to experience.
For easy walks which are suitable for children, why not try the Oberon Northern Loop Walking and Cycling Trail or the Oberon Township Southern Loop. These trails have been developed so both walkers and cyclists can enjoy Oberon’s outdoors. The Northern Loop is a sign posted scenic ride, beginning at the Oberon Museum, and runs alongside the railway track, and incorporates the sealed rail trail, exhilarating downhill rides, quiet country lanes, pine and natural state forests and town bike paths.
The Oberon Township Southern Loop begins at the museum and incorporates paths around the town of Oberon, linking various parks, the Common with gardens, amenities and BBQ facilities, the beautiful scenery near Lake Oberon and the Golf Course. There are several places to rest with public amenities, and excellent picnic areas, as well as places to relax with refreshments at local cafes in Oberon.
There are also other easy walks in the area, including the walk to the Kanangra Plateau, to Kalang Falls, the walk to the top of Evans Crown, and to Ruby Creek in the Blue Mountains National Park.
There are a number of walks that can be enjoyed for the day, such as the Lookout Walk, Waterfall Walk, and Plateau Walk in the Kanangra Boyd National Park. In Kanangra Boyd there is also the walk to Morong Falls Walk, a medium 4 hour walk, and Crafts Walls Walk, a full day walk which is only for experienced walkers with hard steep climbs at the end. While visiting the historic mining town of Yerranderie, why not venture out on a walk in the bushland near the town and see lots of native wildlife.
If camping out over night during your bushwalk takes your fancy, plan a fun overnight bushwalk in one of our national parks, such as the moderate track down to the Kowmung River.
To experience awesome scenic views and a challenge, set out on an adventure bushwalk. The Six Foot Track, from Katoomba to Jenolan Caves, is a 42 kilometre track, and can take up to three days and is a hard trail with easy sections. Another great adventure track is the popular Kanangra Walls to Katoomba, which is another challenging three day trek through the national park.
Before venturing out on any bushwalks, make sure you contact the Oberon Visitor Information Centre for specific directions, and contact the National Parks office to check weather conditions and safety.
